Lend your idle computerto the study of animal signals
Testing animal signals for structure means running the same analyses again and again against chance: permutation tests and classifier runs over hours of public recordings, and, in future, model training on public corpora. A lot of that work can be split into small pieces and run on ordinary computers while they would otherwise sit idle. That is what the EarthConvergence donor-compute network is for.
How it will work
A small program that works when you don't
- 1. Install
- A small donor program on your computer. It tells the network what your machine can offer — cores, memory, bandwidth — and how much work you will accept.
- 2. Receive a slice
- When your machine is idle, it receives a small, self-contained task: for example one batch of a permutation test on a public animal-sound dataset.
- 3. Return a receipt
- It returns the result with a receipt that can be checked, so results from many donors can be verified and combined.
- Your control
- You set the limits, and you can pause or remove it at any time. It works only on research tasks, never on your own files.
